The last week has been a rollercoaster for CM Punk as he won the AEW World Championship when he defeated Jon Moxley at AEW All Out, but he was stripped of the belt a few days later when Tony Khan announced that the AEW World Championship and AEW Trios Championship had been vacated.

CM Punk suffered an injury during the main event and now the Wrestling Observer is reporting that Punk underwent surgery to repair a torn left triceps.

According to Dave Meltzer, CM Punk suffered the injury early on in the match when he went for a tope on Jon Moxley. He underwent surgery earlier this week as his doctor recommended surgery right away to prevent any muscle atrophy. The typical recovery time is about eight months.

Now that CM Punk has been stripped of the belt a tournament is underway to crown a new AEW World Champion. The finals will take place at AEW Grand Slam on September 21. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
