The King and Queen of the Ring tournaments kicked off a few weeks ago and they will culminate at the Night of Champions premium live event this weekend. Cody Rhodes is set to face off against Randy Orton in the King of the Ring finals and the winner of the match will go on to face the Undisputed WWE Champion at SummerSlam in August.
During a recent episode of WrestleVotes Radio, WrestleVotes talked about current plans for the King of the Ring tournament and noted that Cody Rhodes is the leading candidate to win the tournament to set up a rematch with John Cena at SummerSlam.
“In regards to potential match winners, again things can change day of, but based on what we were hearing then and based on what creative has lined out for post-Night of Champions, we can tell you the leading candidates for the winners for the two headline matches this weekend are that of John Cena retaining and Cody Rhodes winning King of the Ring.”
John Cena managed to make history when he defeated Cody Rhodes to win his 17th championship at WrestleMania 41 back in April. Cena will be defending the title on Saturday when he puts the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line against CM Punk at Night of Champions.
