WrestleMania is WWE’s biggest show of the year, and last year WrestleMania 38 featured the in-ring return of the one and only “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Prior to WrestleMania 38, Austin last competed in the ring at WrestleMania 19 when he faced The Rock, and the general assumption in the years that followed was that Austin would likely never return to the ring.

With Austin coming out of retirement at WrestleMania 38 there was a lot of talk about The Texas Rattlesnake possibly stepping into the ring at WrestleMania 39. However, that didn’t end up happening, but Steve Austin recently indicated to WESH 2 that he hasn’t completely closed the door when it comes to wrestling another match.

“In the future, I’m not saying I will get back in the ring, but like I said at [WrestleMania] 38, if the stars align, anything could happen.”

Steve Austin recently confirmed that he met with people from WWE about returning to the ring at WrestleMania 39, but he explained that it wasn’t possible because he felt he didn’t have the time to get ready for another match.

“I told them, and this is the exact truth, I said, ‘Guys, I’m just fixin’ to go into production on this show, Stone Cold Takes on America, and until we start production, I don’t know what my life looks like. I can’t commit.’ Sure enough, there were technical issues before we finished. I was supposed to finish a month before we did. There’s no way, with the schedule I was doing—driving an RV all over God’s creation, doing all I was doing—that I would be ready. I had two 30-pound dumbbells, a 45-pound sandbag, and a 25-pound kettlebell. Working 15 hours a day, then getting in a 30- or 40-minute workout, that doesn’t get you ready for WrestleMania.”
