After WWE launched the Cruiserweight Classic in 2016, rumors started circulating about a possible women’s tournament. Triple H later confirmed that an all women’s tournament was being discussed, but WWE officials have yet to make any sort of official announcement.

It looks like plans for the tournament are moving forward, as F4Wonline.com reports that WWE has been calling female talent about working a taping for the tournament which is currently scheduled for May.

Plans for the tournament have been in place since last August, and as far as possible participants go, Isabel Lahela, Evie, Nixon Newell, Demi Bennett and Kairi Hojo are all set to report to the WWE Performance Center in April, so it’s possible they could be included.

Other names rumored for the tournament include Zeuixs, Shazza McKenzie, Scarlett Bordeaux, Deonna Purrazzo, Toni Storm, and Io Shirai.

After the WWE Cruiserweight Classic finished up, quite a few of the talents ended up with WWE contracts, so it’s always possible that WWE could add some of these women to their ranks after the tournament is all said and done.

There’s certainly no shortage of talented women out there who are free agents at the moment. Gail Kim’s contract with Impact Wrestling recently expired, as did Jade’s, so you never know who might show up.

If WWE does indeed end up taping the tournament in May then we will likely find out who will be participating sooner than later.
