For years now Lana and Rusev have been one of the most important power couples on TV. Shortly after Rusev debuted, the duo dominated WWE programming and the real life husband and wife proved to be the perfect pair. Lana managed to get Rusev over big time with her pro-Vladimir Putin promos, but eventually WWE split them up and put them in a weird love rectangle with Summer Rae and Dolph Ziggler.
The love rectangle didn’t work out very well, and viewers really seemed to dislike the story-line. The angle was cut short after Lana publicly announced that she and Rusev had become engaged, and luckily real life put an end to a brutal fictional storyline.
Although splitting up Lana and Rusev has not worked in the past, it looks like WWE officials are going to give it another shot, as the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that current plans call for the power couple to split up.
The Ravishing Russian has been training at the WWE Performance Center and working on her new gimmick at NXT shows in Florida, and she’s been wearing Nikki Bella like shorts as she dances to the ring. It’s presumed that WWE officials are grooming Lana to be a babyface in the women’s division.
Rusev and Lana were both moved to SmackDown Live in the Superstar Shake-up, but if this report turns out to be correct it doesn’t sound like we’ll be seeing them work together on Tuesday nights.
