You never know who might return when you watch WWE programming as John Cena and The Rock both returned to the company last month. Cena and The Rock’s history has been well documented as they were once bitter rivals who have been able to cultivate a friendship based on mutual respect.

Before their rivalry played out on television John Cena publicly called The Rock out which Cena has since apologized for. Rock and Cena recently crossed paths at SmackDown, and Cena noted on The Bump that he also had a conversation with The Rock that took place off camera.

“Thank you for your question but let me reframe it, ‘what was it like to see a friend that I haven’t seen in a long time?’ In between the times that we’ve spent with each other, I’ve openly come to a realization that the first attempt of us competing against each other probably was a professional mistake on my past. I’ve been very apologetic & very open with my apology that the way I conducted business was not in the realm of conducting good business. We did great business. It was good to see him & reconnect after all this time. That was the first time we’d seen each other since I publicly apologized for that & I just wanted to make sure he heard that face to face again & it’s just good to see a friend.”

At this point it’s not clear when we could see The Rock on WWE programming again, but he has said that he’s open to the idea of facing Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. Stay tuned for updates.
