A few years ago John Cena made a big appearance at the Backlash premium live event and in the days leading up to the show Cena teased a historic announcement. The former WWE Champion announced the first ever John Cena Classic tournament, but since the initial announcement little has been revealed about the tournament.
Today, John Cena appeared on The Today Show and confirmed that the John Cena Classic will be taking place in December, and the tournament will be based off the core values of his character.
“Now this year in December, I’m really excited about announcing the John Cena Classic. We’re gonna do an event based off all the memory, all the nostalgia, and the IP and the core values of the character, which is me. Hustle, loyalty, respect, perseverance, virtue, overcoming the odds, and giving the vote to the people.
Our audience is gonna decide our champion that night, so it’s a really unique live event. I don’t even know if it’s gonna work. I’m still taking bold chances in the WWE space, and I’m proud to be helping the John Cena Classic.”
Details regarding the format of the tournament have not been revealed just yet, but Cena did recently confirm that the details have been figured out. As of right now the only thing truly known about the tournament is that the fans will decide the winner.
Stay tuned for updates.
