Sunday night was a huge night for Jinder Mahal, as the Maharaja defeated Randy Orton at Backlash to become the new WWE Champion. Fans around the world were shocked when Jinder picked up the victory, but for the Maharaja the title win was the culmination of years of hard work and dedication.
Jinder Mahal is the first Indian WWE Champion since The Great Khali, and he told Sportskeeda right after he won the title that his next goal is to beat John Cena.
“I want to make everybody proud, just like everybody is proud of The Great Khali for being the champion, I want to be a great champion. I want to represent you guys (fans) in a good way and put on good matches. I just defeated Randy Orton, who is legendary in the business, so I want to beat guys like John Cena, more and more legends, and establish my name as one of the top names of all time in wrestling.”
Indian fans seem to be very happy that Jinder Mahal is the new WWE Champion, and the current title holder took a moment to thank the fans for supporting him.
