Hulk Hogan has seen his fair share of ups and downs over the last few years, and WWE quickly dropped him back in 2015 after leaked audio of Hogan using racial slurs in a private conversation leaked online.
Hogan has been trying to rebuild his image ever since, and last year the Hulkster met with talents backstage at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view and apologized for using racial slurs.
Following the meeting The New Day released a statement saying that they felt indifferent toward Hulk Hogan, and that they found it difficult to simply forget about his comments. An excerpt from the statement reads as follows:
“On a personal level, when someone makes racist and hateful comments about any race or group of people, especially to the degree that Hogan made about our people, we find it difficult to simply forget, regardless of how long ago it was, or the situation in which those comments were made. But we also do not respond with more feelings of hate. Instead, we just do not associate with the people who convey or have conveyed this negative and hurtful mindset. This instance will be no different. Perhaps if we see him make a genuine effort to change, then maybe our opinion will change with him. Time will tell.”
WrestleMania 35 was a big night for Hulk Hogan and The New Day, as Hogan returned to the Show of Shows for the first time in years, and Kofi Kingston won the WWE Championship.
On WrestleMania Sunday, Big E referenced Hulk Hogan on Twitter when he said he appreciated him taking the time to apologize, and hear his position.
