It has been documented that WWE officials didn’t decide to push Jinder Mahal and make him WWE Champion just to create a new star. Mahal’s title reign is specifically designed to appeal to the Indian market and expand into the country like other wrestling promotions have done.

Now, it’s being reported by the Wrestling Observer that WWE officials are viewing India as the No. 1 market for the company in the world. India is actually the top country for WWE in terms of product consumption. The country even consumes more WWE content than the US.

However, WWE doesn’t gain a lot of money from India because consumption and income are two different concepts. The company is trying to change this by breaking into the market as other wrestling promotions have done recently. Eventually, WWE hopes to break into Asia as well.

The company has set up a new office in the area in hopes that it will lead to a lot more for the promotion for the foreseeable future. The upcoming tour in India this year should be a huge indication of how WWE officials need to cement their expansion into the country for good.
