On a recent episode of the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast former Mean Street Posse member, Pete Gas was on the program and spoke about a number of stories concerning his intimate relationship with WWE’s Attitude Era. Pete is currently promoting his new book: Looking at the Lights: My Path From Fan to a Wrestling Heel.
During the interview Pete Gas told the story about how the Mean Street Posse ended up being paired with Bradshaw and Farooq and it was all because of a prank Rodney pulled on Shane McMahon. Needless to say, the Acolytes weren’t the easiest team to go up against because they were notoriously two of the stiffest workers on the roster.
“We’re on a plane. Vince and Shane were sitting in first class. Rodney and I were in the front row of coach,” Pete says. When Sam asked him if they traveled in their sweater-vests Gas said, “I knew you were gonna ask that – no. I didn’t live the gimmick [laughs]. So we’re in the front row and sleeping […] in the first row of coach and Rodney gets hit in the face with a magazine by Shane [McMahon]. Rodney wakes up, looks at me like I did it […] we both looked into first class and here’s Shane looking back going [taunting and laughing]. So, Rodney grabs the magazine and he’s ready to whip it back because it had that hard plastic cover over it […] so he goes to throw it, and Shane points at Vince. So I go ‘Rod, stop don’t do it.’ So [Rodney] basically gives Shane the finger, ‘F you’ and he throw the magazine down and goes to sleep.”
“Five minutes later, he gets hit in the face again. So Rodney’s ready to get up and Shane’s laughing, and I’m laughing too because it’s funny. And we just always have fun with each other’s pain. […] So finally Rodney tells the stewardess, I don’t know if he made-believe that he was Shane, but he goes ‘could you let the people on the plane know that WWF superstar Shane McMahon is on the plane and would be glad to give autographs to any and all people on the plane?’ So he says this and Vince is awake, he knows what’s going on. And all you hear from first class is [imitating Vince McMahon’s deep laughter]. Shane looks back and he says, ‘I’m getting even with both of you guys.’ So sure enough the next week: Mean Street Posse versus The Acolytes. And it went on for weeks and we got our heads blasted, and it was all because of that.”
