WrestleMania 33 has come and gone. It was a night full of surprises and outstanding performances. But an even more extravagant and impressive set played backdrop to the incredible action and suspense. As it turns out it was a very expensive set to put together.
Sportskeeda reports WWE spent $5 million on putting the stage together for WrestleMania 33 in Camping World Stadium. Even though Vince McMahon sent out an order to call it the Citrus Bowl, we all knew where they really were. Regardless, the set was breathtaking.
The last time The Citrus Bowl hosted WrestleMania in 2008 it was a fantastic night as well. Ric Flair had his final match in a WWE ring and the main event saw The Undertaker defeat Edge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. This year’s event was monumental as well with The Undertaker having his final match this year. Word is that might be the last time fans ever see The Undertaker.
Fans wondered if WWE would be able to top the set design for WrestleMania 24 and it looks like they outdid themselves. The $5 million price tag most likely exceeds any amount WWE had paid for a set before but it was well worth it. The stage was huge and the event seemed all that much more important because of it. Besides, they needed a great set because the show was seven-hours long. Nobody wants to look at a lackluster stage for seven straight hours.
Next year’s WrestleMania at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans probably won’t need that extravagant of a set. Besides, WrestleMania 34 is going to be a domed show therefore they won’t need as much to fill up such an open area.
WrestleMania 33 was indeed the “Ultimate Thrill Ride” from the card to the very stage itself. WWE really outdid themselves with the $5 million set and we think they certainly got their money’s worth.
