The road to WrestleMania has been full of twists and turns and back in February, Jey Uso punched his ticket to the Show of Shows when he won the 30 man Royal Rumble match. Shortly after Jey Uso confirmed that he would be challenging Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41, and their rivalry has become quite heated in recent weeks.
Gunther discussed his upcoming match with Jey Uso during an appearance on the Ariel Helwani Show, and The Ring General admitted that he was originally hoping to face someone like CM Punk, Seth Rollins or Roman Reigns on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
“I didn’t think Jey would be my ideal opponent for WrestleMania because we are very different. But then rethinking it, I think it makes a lot of sense…”
“My hopes were, can I mix it up with somebody like Punk, maybe with Seth, or maybe with Roman… is there a chance for even Cena? But yeah, it didn’t work out yet. I think we’re in a situation right now in a company where so many things changed in a very short time and there’s a whole new excitement about the company and that’s a big opportunity for guys that are newer to the place like me.”
WWE recently confirmed that Gunther vs. Jey Uso will take place during night 1 of WrestleMania. A few other matches were also confirmed for night 1 and night 2 and you can get more details on that here.
