The WWE brand split is returning in a few weeks and Dave Meltzer noted yesterday that WWE has contacted several “40+ year old guys.”
Meltzer talked more about the situation on Wrestling Observer Radio and said that WWE has contacted Carlito, MVP, Stevie Richards and others. He said that everyone who’s available is getting a call but he didn’t want to mention any other names.
Forbes is also reporting that WWE is interested in bringing in Goldberg, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio. The report mentions that WWE wants to use Angle for the SmackDown brand and WWE has discussed the idea of forming a new Team Angle with American Alpha from NXT.
It’s worth noting that Kurt Angle and Goldberg are both free agents at the moment, but Rey Mysterio is currently under contract with Lucha Underground and Jeff Hardy signed a new contract with TNA earlier this year.
It will be great if WWE bring back stars people want to see return.
Kurt Angle would probably get the best return reaction. He is well respected and him in a part time wrestler or commentary role would be good to see.
Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio are hugely popular stars and would be welcomed back well also , I just hope they can hold up and avoid the injuries.
I really think Goldberg would get the Bootista treatment if I’m honest.
I personally could not care less about Carlito, MVP and Stevie Richards, I see little point in bringing those guys back.
I would much rather see John Morrison and Kharma get a second shot at WWE as I feel both can contribute far more meaningfully as Morrison has really come into his own in Lucha Underground and Kharma never got a true shot at WWE because of personal circumstances and she would be a great shake up to the women’s division as a scaremonger.
