For decades Jim Johnston worked as a composer for WWE and he created some of the most iconic entrance themes in the history of professional wrestling. It was confirmed back in 2017 that Johnston had been released from WWE and since then the company has worked with a number of different composers.
It’s certainly no big secret that a lot of the modern WWE themes have been heavily criticized by the fans. Recently Jim Johnston shared his take on the modern themes during an appearance on Podcast Heat Wrestling and he also expressed some frustration with the quality of the songs.
“It’s almost a frustration to me, the few times I’m going through the cable stations and I land on one of these programs and just everything seems…I’m just shaking my head like what does this music have to do with anything. We’ve gone from a time when you could be cooking in the kitchen and the TV’s two rooms away and you could tell who’s coming out to the ring and now it’s…noise.”
During the interview Jim Johnston confirmed that he reached out to AEW about potentially writing theme songs for the company, but there was no interest. However, he stated that due to the way he approached the idea it’s possible that the people in charge never got the memo. He also confirmed that he would be happy to write new themes for WWE.
