Paige hasn’t appeared on WWE programming since last summer and the past year has been a bit of a rocky road for the former Divas Champion. Even though she hasn’t been active inside a wrestling ring, she’s been getting a lot of unwanted attention for all the wrong reasons, but through it all she’s remained positive and optimistic.
After undergoing neck surgery in 2016, Paige is still recovering, but she recently said that she’s looking forward to getting back in the ring, and hopefully she’ll be able to return sooner rather than later. When fans will be seeing Paige back in the ring is unclear at this point, but in the future fans will see Florence Pugh do her best Paige impression on the big screen because she’s set to play the WWE star in the upcoming film “Fighting With My Family.”
“Fighting With My Family” tells the story of Paige’s family, and Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that a rough cut of the film recently screened at the Arclight theater in Sherman Oaks, CA.
The film follows Paige from her beginnings in England through her NXT Women’s Championship and Divas Championship wins. Executive Producer The Rock makes appearances in the film and he reportedly drops a few of his famous one-liners on Paige while backstage at WWE events.
People who attended the screening were told it was the first time anyone would be seeing the movie, and one source reported to PWS that the acting was solid, and the ending of the film was emotional. It was also noted that the story is “pretty paint-by-numbers” and that the story could have been pieced together using press releases from IMDB.
So, it doesn’t look like the movie is going to win any points for original approaches to storytelling, but it seems that the first reactions to the film were mostly positive, and this will likely be a movie that wrestling fans will want to check out. As of this writing a release date has not been announced.
But only time will tell if it can dethrone “Ready To Rumble” as the greatest wrestling movie ever created.
We’ll just have to wait and see, but in the meantime, just remember that Jimmy The King will rule you!
