It is quite clear that Smackdown needs to hit the ground running for the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view seeing that WWE only has 2 weeks to prepare for the match. As we have previously reported during the opening moments of the show, Shane McMahon wasted no time in announcing the participants of the upcoming Elimination Chamber match: John Cena, AJ Styles, Baron Corbin, Bray Wyatt, Miz, and Dean Ambrose.
AJ Styles was campaigning for a one-on-one rematch against Cena for the WWE World Title, and they promised him that he would get his one-on-one rematch. They did, however, say that the next time Cena would put his newly won title on the line would be at the Elimination Chamber event in Phoenix.
John Cena then came down to the ring as the first actual segment of the night to put over AJ Styles in a very respectful way. He said that AJ isn’t just a guy from Atlanta, but also an elite (catch that Elite reference?) WWE superstar that brings out the best in Super Cena.
The Elimination Chamber match is surely going to be an excellent chance to shake up the blue brand’s landscape and many (including Dave Meltzer) have said that The Eater of Worlds, Bray Wyatt will walk away with the title during this match-up.
The fact that Wyatt interrupted Cena in the middle of his promo was certainly a clear indication of things to come. WWE appears to be positioning Wyatt as a prime competitor for the title. The fact that he walked to the ring alongside his Wyatt Family brethren, and Royal Rumble winner Randy Orton only adds more intrigue to this future match. Wyatt and Orton very well might find themselves tangling in Orlando, and it looks like the wheels are already in motion for that match to become a reality.
Randy and Bray approached the ring to attack Cena, but the lights went down and Luke Harper was revealed in the ring on Cena’s side. It seems the Luke Harper’s face turn is now complete. Shane McMahon then came out to proclaim that Cena and Harper would team against Wyatt and Orton as the first match of the night.
