Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal have both had an interesting journey over the past few years. They were both members of the group 3MB when they were released from WWE, and both stars eventually returned and captured championship gold. Jinder Mahal won the WWE Championship when he defeated Randy Orton at Backlash, and Drew McIntyre won the NXT Championship when he defeated Bobby Roode at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III.

Mahal and McIntyre know each other well, and McIntyre recently shared a story about how he watched Jinder win the WWE Title at Backlash then he rushed backstage to bust out an air guitar for the former 3MB member. During a recent interview with The Whig, McIntyre shared another story about what he and Jinder said to each other after Drew won the belt at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III.

“After the show, (I remember) myself and Jinder in the hotel room, both with our titles, looking at each other and saying, ‘Imagine three years ago if somebody said this was going to happen?’” McIntyre mused, re-living the moment. “We’d probably have told you you were absolutely insane. But we did it. We believed in ourselves and it’s a message to anybody out there who has a dream that seems impossible. Nothing is impossible. Just look at Jinder Mahal and Drew McIntyre.”

Drew and Jinder took a similar path on their way back to WWE, and McIntyre noted that they kept in touch while they were away from the company.

“We kept in contact with each other. Both of us would go back and forth about cutting the negatives out of our lives, both of us cut out the alcohol and the partying, which isn’t productive for an athlete. We started eliminating anything that wasn’t benefiting us, people who weren’t benefiting us. We were just very driven and very focused and we were both on the same page in that sense. Our physiques obviously changed, when you train that hard and try that hard and you’re that driven, pushing each other and pushing each other. It was so cool that our careers started mirroring each other.”

Which champion do you think is better, NXT Champion Drew McIntyre or WWE Champion Jinder Mahal? Sound off in the comments below.

  1. Drew is much better than Jinder in ring. He even have the potential to challenge Roman Reigns for the ‘big dog’ position. But Jinder is more confident in mic. WWE seriously need to protect them both for the future
