When Drew McIntyre popped back up on WWE television we were surprised, to say the least. Drew was still very ingrained in the indie pro wrestling culture after his exit from Impact Wrestling. He had actually just successfully defended one of his indie titles earlier in the day prior to NXT TakeOver: Orlando. It was recently reported that Drew McIntyre is only signed to a one-year deal with WWE but he has some big plans in NXT.
WWE.com recently spoke to The Chosen One Drew McIntyre and he had a lot to say.
“I was 21 years old when I first signed with WWE. I finished my university degree and came straight to America. I grew up in America and became a man in WWE. I went through ups and downs in this business and in life, and when I was released by WWE in 2014, I knew I had a wealth of knowledge and an opportunity.”
Drew McIntyre spoke about his history in the pro wrestling industry and where he came from. He went on to discuss how he was able to take his release from WWE and use it to his advantage by making a new name for himself in the indies.
“I put myself out there and people responded. Promoters believed in me and gave me a platform, and then the fans started believing in me. It went from me trying to show the fans what I was all about to growing companies around the world. I got to be the face of so many companies, like EVOLVE and Insane Championship Wrestling in Scotland. I became a reliable franchise player in those companies. That’s my legacy worldwide now.”

It’s interesting to note who Drew McIntyre name dropped in his interview. He didn’t mention WCPW which was the promotion that he is the current top champion of at the time. He had a very busy day because he was also at an EVOLVE show forty-five minutes before TakeOver: Orlando.
Anybody ever released from WWE or NXT should use Drew’s example in how to take a lemon and turn it into a whole gallon of lemonade. He was able to take over the world and make his name one of the hottest commodities in pro wrestling. Now he’s back in NXT and he means business this time.
Needless to say, Impact Wrestling really dropped the ball when they let Drew McIntyre go.
