Carmelo Hayes has been on the WWE main roster for a few years now and his main roster run has had its ups and downs. While Hayes had an impressive run with the WWE United States Championship he has seemingly gotten lost in the shuffle from time to time.
Hayes’ run with the United States Championship unfortunately came to an end a few weeks before WrestleMania as Hayes dropped the title to Sami Zayn, who later dropped the belt to Trick Williams on the Grandest Stage of Them All. Following his 98 day reign with the title some fans were confused as to why Carmelo Hayes wasn’t featured on the WrestleMania card this year.
During a recent Fightful Select Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp was asked how Carmelo Hayes is viewed backstage and noted that he’s never heard anything about Hayes being viewed negatively.
It was added that Hayes has always been referred to as dependable, professional, and with a lot of upside. It was also noted that Carmelo Hayes was a favorite of Shawn Michaels in NXT, but that doesn’t necessarily always translate to a wrestler becoming one of Triple H’s favorites.
Carmelo Hayes last stepped into the ring during the most recent episode of SmackDown in Boston when he challenged Baron Corbin for the United States Championship. Ultimately Corbin pinned Hayes to retain the championship.
