When Bryan Danielson announced that he was being replaced by a mystery wrestler at Forbidden Door fans immediately began to speculate that it could be Claudio Castagnoli. The former Cesaro made his big debut with AEW at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view, and he went on to help his team secure a victory at Blood & Guts.

AEW President Tony Khan recently discussed Claudio Castagnoli’s status on Busted Open Radio, and he confirmed that Claudio has signed a multi-year deal that will keep him with the company long term.

“This is a long-term thing. This is a long-term, multi-year agreement, and I’m very excited about it. I think there’s a huge future for Claudio Castagnoli here [in AEW]. I cannot wait for that, and I was just thrilled he came in. The timing of his arrival could not have been any better, with Bryan Danielson out injured ahead of Forbidden Door and Blood & Guts. I felt, and Bryan Danielson also felt, there was only one wrestler we believed that could step in and fill Bryan Danielson’s shoes, particularly in two very different matches, but both hugely important [matches].

This week Claudio Castagnoli had a face to face confrontation with Jake Hager in a backstage interview on Dynamite. It was confirmed that the former tag team partners will face off on Dynamite next week.
