For years Dave Bautista was one of the top names in WWE, and over the course of the last decade or so he’s established himself with some big roles in Hollywood. Now it seems that Dave could be taking on another big role in the near future.

Deadline is reporting that Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television are looking to get a big name to play Kratos, and that former WWE Champion Dave Bautista is currently in negotiations for the role.

Ryan Hurst was originally set to play Kratos in the series, but the decision was made to recast after Hurst suffered a torn bicep on set, which will require him to undergo surgery. At the time production was already four months into shooting, but production was paused immediately.

Prep for the series is expected to pick back up again in mid-August with production resuming in mid-October in Vancouver. It was noted that Bautista is coming off shooting the new Highlander movie which required him to bulk up for the role.

Ronald D. Moore serves as the writer, executive producer and showrunner for the series. The current plan is to film two seasons of the series back to back.

The synopsis for the series reads as follows:

“God of War follows father and son Kratos (Bautista) and Atreus (Callum Vinson) as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.”

Other names confirmed for the cast include Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri and Danny Woodburn as Brok.
