Darby Allin has been one of the stars to watch since AEW first launched, but when he first found out about the company he was under contract with another promotion.
The former TNT Champion recently appeared on the DDP Snake Pit podcast and he explained that Cody Rhodes thought he was just a crash test dummy who took gnarly bumps before he saw him face off against Pentagon. However, once Darby found out that Cody was interested in him he did what he had to do to get out of his contract so he could join AEW.
“At the time I was signed with another like little promotion. And then the moment I heard that Cody was interested, long story short, I paid $12,000 to get out of my contract. I took a loan out and then I remember I used to hit Cody up like every day just blow his phone up. And he would never really answer.”
“No, that’s why I was hitting him up. I was like is this for sure because I’m taking $12,000 out of a loan and then I was like I need to know like what’s going on. This is before Double or Nothing even happened. So like I just heard that there was this new company starting up and then this is before TV was like even talked about. I was like oh, this is crazy. All I heard when they were promoting it was the word creative freedom, and I was like that’s where I need to be. Then eventually I went to his house and then we talked.”
As of this writing Darby Allin is not on the All Out card, but he confirmed that he and Sting will be wrestling at the pay-per-view and their match will be announced on 8/31. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
