Cody Rhodes competed in his fifth WrestleMania main event when he defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton in the night 1 main event of WrestleMania 42. The American Nightmare managed to retain his title, but he was in rough shape after going to war with his former friend.
Following the match WWE confirmed that Cody Rhodes suffered an orbital injury, and was not medically cleared to compete. Rhodes recently shared an update on his status after speaking with a doctor, and he confirmed that the doctor told him he won’t be losing his eye when he posted the following to his Instagram stories:
‘You won’t lose the eye…’
has to be the most positive yet absurd thing
I’ve ever heard in a doctor’s office.”
Rhodes did appear on Raw this week when he confronted CM Punk and he shocked the fans when he removed his sunglasses to reveal the gruesome eye injury.
At this point in time it’s not clear what’s next for The American Nightmare, but a potential match with CM Punk was teased on Monday Night Raw. However, it’s probably safe to say that Randy Orton will be looking to settle his unfinished business with Cody sooner than later.
