Cody Rhodes was one of the key figures who helped launch All Elite Wrestling in 2019, and he feuded with a variety of names prior to his departure from the company in 2022. At AEW Fyter Fest in 2019, Shawn Spears turned on Cody Rhodes which led to The American Nightmare defeating Spears at the All Out pay-per-view later that year.
Today it was reported that Shawn Spears will be finishing up with AEW as he’s set to become a free agent on January 1. Shawn Spears confirmed his departure via social media when he posted the following:
“What a wonderful time it has been. Thank you @AEW for allowing me to be there from the ground level. It’s been a fantastic 5 years of growth and personal development. This is a personal choice and one that is best for me and my family at this time. Thank you to all, staff and talent alike for the memories ❤️ #10”
“Most importantly, to the incredible fans of ALL professional wrestling: I love you guys. I really do.”
Cody Rhodes showed respect to Shawn Spears and he reacted to his departure with the following tweet:
“Love The Chairman, a great man
@ShawnSpears”
