We’re only a few days away from WrestleMania and Cody Rhodes will be defending his Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton on the Grandest Stage of Them All. While Cody is technically feuding with Randy, Pat McAfee has become the focal point in their storyline ever since he was revealed to be the mystery caller Orton had been talking to a few weeks ago.
McAfee’s inclusion in the storyline has been heavily criticized, and Damian Priest recently made it clear that he’s not a fan of the way things have played out.
While talking about the storyline with Jimmy Traina of SI, Cody Rhodes was asked if he’s able to push back on McAfee’s inclusion, and he praised the support he’s been receiving from other wrestlers.
“That’s an interesting question. Yeah, I’d say that’s an interesting question. I’ll just leave it. That’s a fair question. I didn’t know the boys were out there [criticizing the angle]. [Damian] Priest, I love that. That’s funny. He’s a good egg.
I had a wrestler yesterday who whispered in my ear like it was the 1980s and we were getting into a fight. I’m gonna shout him out. Royce Keys told me, ‘I got your back no matter what.’ I was in the middle of signing my weight belts. We’re good. It’s okay. But now I know that, so that made me feel really good. I thought, ‘Oh, man.’ The respect of your peers. Can’t beat that.”
