Last year Cody Rhodes shocked the world when he parted ways with AEW, and the former TNT Champion went on to return to WWE when he defeated Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 38. Rhodes has since gone on to become one of the top stars in WWE, but he hasn’t said much about his reasons for leaving All Elite Wrestling.

In his new documentary on Peacock, Cody Rhodes explained that he left AEW due to a personal issue and he elaborated on that statement during a recent interview with GQ.

“[Leaving AEW] was the easiest thing I ever did. And it’s because I had a personal issue that I wasn’t going through, over, or around. I was just going to steer clear of it. If anything, I wanted to look at what we had done at AEW and say, ‘Amazing, what a wonderful time, a beautiful memory, and very special in every way. And now it’s time to move on.'”

Over the last few years the wrestling landscape has changed drastically as companies like AEW, Impact, New Japan, AAA, NWA and more have shown that they are willing to work together and cross promote. However, Cody Rhodes noted that he doesn’t see AEW and WWE working together in the future.

“I don’t see it. Only because I’m the old competitive type, you know? That’s your competition and you want to run the score up.”
