Cody Rhodes managed to finish the story last year when he defeated Roman Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40. This year Cody Rhodes is heading into WrestleMania season as a champion which means he has a target on his back.
This week on Raw, Drew McIntyre picked up a win over Sami Zayn then continued to beat Sami down after the match. Cody attempted to make the save, but Sami inadvertently kicked Cody in the face during the scuffle.
After the dust settled Cody Rhodes started to cut a promo addressing his upcoming ladder match with Kevin Owens, but he was interrupted by CM Punk. The Second City Saint told Cody that he has some bad news, and the bad news is that he’ll be coming for The American Nightmare and the Undisputed WWE Championship when he wins the Royal Rumble. Cody and Punk then stared each other down as Raw went off the air.
After the show ended things went from bad to worse for Cody Rhodes as Carmelo Hayes attacked him from behind. After he attacked the Undisputed WWE Champion, Hayes got on the mic and told Cody that one thing he learned from him is “you gotta take shots, to make shots.” Hayes then declared that he will be entering the 30 man Royal Rumble match on Saturday. He followed up and said “when I win, get ready to put the fries in the bag punk!”
This week on WWE Monday Night Raw several names were confirmed for the Royal Rumble including Logan Paul, Penta, Chad Gable and Bron Breakker. Now that Carmelo Hayes has declared for the match that means there are 15 confirmed participants, and 15 open spots as of this writing.
The Royal Rumble will air live from Indianapolis, IN on Saturday, February 1st. Stay tuned for updates.
