CM Punk was making the rounds with the media promoting UFC 189 when SevereMMA caught up with him. The interviewer asked him about his professional wrestling career and if he felt that his matches in ROH were some of his best work.

“We had built up ROH to be a place where guys could go and not just work but learn and get better. A lot of guys had been around the horn working for all these indies and it eventually gets a little tedious when you see the same guys and nobody is really getting any better. We had this core group of people and we turned Ring of Honor into something we were super proud of.” Punk said.

He went on to talk about the impact that the ROH scene had on the WWE landscape and how everything WWE management put him down for is now what they look for.

“I think it’s funny now when you look at the pro wrestling landscape, all the guys that they’re hiring, all the guys that they’re putting on television. I can honestly say I don’t know if that happens if a guy like me and a guy like Joe don’t take a chance. Everybody’s talented in their own right but everything that I was made fun of and vilified for by management is what they’re looking for in guys and I wear that as a badge of honor.”

When the interviewer talked about how former Ring of Honor guys are making it to the top of the WWE, Punk said it’s “A big I f*cking told you so.” He went on to say that he’s not taking credit for anyone else’s success as they would have made it somewhere, somehow.
