CM Punk got the wrestling world talking back in 2014 when he walked out and parted ways with WWE. At the time Punk was one of the biggest names in the company and he didn’t end up returning until November of 2023. CM Punk has infamously referred to himself as a “Paul Heyman guy” but it seems that Punk and Heyman didn’t talk much after The Second City Saint left WWE.
Ahead of the WWE Royal Rumble premium live event CM Punk sat down with Jackie Redmond for an interview, and he explained why some of his personal relationships suffered after he left WWE in 2014.
“No. We would talk very intermittently. We actually ran into each other at Laguardia airport one time and just, backs to the wall, looking forward and having a conversation.
You have to understand when I left here and there was a lawsuit, all kinds of really really gun extra curricular stuff going on, I was advised by lawyers, ’You have to watch what you say to anybody because it could wind up facilitating it’s way back. I was super guarded. It was a rough time for relationships back then, and Paul was kind of no exception.”
