Chris Jericho finished up his WWE run a few months ago after Kevin Owens defeated him to win the US Title on SmackDown Live. Following their excellent match, Owens destroyed Chris Jericho, and the first ever Undisputed Champion was written off TV so that he could go on tour with his band Fozzy.
But much to the delight of the fans, Jericho made his surprise return on SmackDown Live a few weeks ago, and he challenged Kevin Owens to a US Title match. Shane McMahon threw AJ Styles into the mix, and all three men tore the house down with a triple threat match in the main event.
In the end it was Styles who won the title, but it was nice to see Chris Jericho make his return for one night only. So how exactly did his return come together?
On a recent episode of Talk Is Jericho, Chris Jericho explained that he was in town to film footage for more episodes of Southpaw Regional Wrestling. Jericho was also recording an episode of his podcast with Tyler Breeze and Fandango, and he explained to Breezango that he got roped into wrestling a match while he was at the arena.
“That’s actually why I’m here today, to film that show Southpaw and talk to you guys. And now I got roped into having a match.”
It’s always tough to say goodbye to Chris Jericho, but at least his return was a pleasant reminder that you never know when he might show up.
Also, Jericho confirmed production for new episodes of Southpaw Regional Wrestling is underway, so that’s something to look forward to.
