It was announced last year that Tony Khan had purchased Ring of Honor and since then fans have seen a number of ROH stars appear on AEW programming. The ROH World Championship has also been featured on AEW programming and Chris Jericho defeated Claudio Castagnoli to win the ROH World Title at Grand Slam in September of 2022.

It’s no big secret that AEW had been dealing with some drama involving The Elite and CM Punk coming out of the 2022 All Out pay-per-view in early September. During an appearance on In The Kliq, Chris Jericho talked about what that time period was like for AEW and why he thinks his ROH World Title reign helped the company grow.

“It was a great idea from Tony Khan. At the time we were using Ring Of Honor guys on ‘Dynamite’ and nobody knew what it was, or nobody knew what the point was, or what Ring Of Honor even was. … So let me give this belt a reason to be on the show.

“(Jon Moxley) did a great job (as AEW World Champion), and I think at the time me being ROH Champion, I think I worked eight weeks in a row, I’ve never worked that much recently. I think it really helped AEW get out of this kind of weird situation we were in and grow.”
