CM Punk is without a doubt one of the most controversial figures in wrestling. Since leaving WWE in 2014, he’s been pursuing a career in MMA, but he lost his first fight and a second fight has yet to be announced.
Punk at one time was one of WWE’s most popular stars, and many fans have tried to guess what the “CM” in his name stands for. On the latest episode of his podcast, Something To Wrestle With Bruce Prichard, Bruce talked about working with Punk, and he says the former WWE Champion told him the “CM” stands for “Chick Magnet” (via Wrestling Inc).
“Well from his own mouth, he told me that it was Chick Magnet and he was given that name because of the tag team and it just stuck and he just never changed it after all those years,” said Prichard. “And it was that simple.”
CM Punk has also been known as the Straight Edge Superstar for many years, but Prichard also revealed that Punk once took a shot out of respect for Harley Race.
“Now Punk doesn’t drink, doesn’t do drugs but he took a shot out of respect for Harley Race. And goes, ‘You know, Harley asked me to do it, one shot’s not going to kill me. I’m not going to go get hammered. I took a shot out of respect for Harley Race.’ And for whatever reason, I thought that was cool and that just kind of showed the love and respect he had for the business and the old timers,” said Prichard. “He didn’t have to and you know, it would have been fine.”
