People around the world are waiting in anticipating to see if the Beast Incarnate can topple the Face of WCW in the main event of WrestleMania 33. But, Brock Lesnar versus Goldberg wasn’t always the initial plan for WrestleMania. As many would assume by the way Summerslam ended with Shane McMahon taking an F5 outta nowhere, Shane McMahon was indeed supposed to face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33.
That would lead us to wonder why the match was changed in the first place because now it looks like AJ Styles has to jump on the Shane train as Brock Lesnar is set up with a much higher priority match with Goldberg for the Universal Title. The answer is quite simple: Brock Lesnar didn’t want to wrestle Shane McMahon.
Dave Meltzer said in a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that the original plan was for Brock to go up against the Smackdown Live authority figure but Lesnar “certainly didn’t want to do it.” Therefore, the entire angle was scrapped. AJ Styles was put into the Shane McMahon match and Brock Lesnar is probably going to walk out of WrestleMania with the Universal Title.
Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg is official for WrestleMania 33, but AJ Styles vs. Shane McMahon is not. It’s already been announced that Shane McMahon will address AJ Styles on SmackDown this week so it looks like the match could be confirmed very soon.
