The landscape of WWE changed in a big way this week, and the company made it clear that they want fans to know Survivor Series is only a few weeks away. The stars of Raw and SmackDown Live will be facing off at the event, which means we’ll be seeing brand warfare for the next few weeks.
The stars of SmackDown Live fired the first shot when they invaded Monday Night Raw this week, and luckily for them, Raw decided not to retaliate on Tuesday night.
We’ll be seeing plenty of Red vs. Blue on November 19, and the champions of their respective brands will also be facing off in non-title matches.
Last week Jinder Mahal challenged Brock Lesnar to a match at Survivor Series, and this week Lesnar accepted the challenge. The WWE Champion and Universal Champion will face off in the main event, and WWE officials are hoping to get a special guest referee involved.
It was recently reported that John Cena is being considered for the special guest referee spot, but that plan is not set in stone.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is now reporting that Vince McMahon is considering The Rock and Steve Austin for the spot.
Of course the big issue here is whether or not Rock or Austin would even want to do it.
One of the other big issues in regards to The Rock is whether or not his schedule would allow him to do it, and how much it would cost to get him involved. The Rock and Brock Lesnar do have a history together as they faced off at SummerSlam in 2002. Rock vs. Lesnar was originally in the plans for WrestleMania 30, but Rock has stayed away from the ring after production on “Hercules” was delayed when he tore a muscle during his 2013 match with John Cena.
Even though Steve Austin is done as a wrestler, placing him in the match would still add a lot of intrigue as Austin vs. Lesnar was a big match that the fans wanted but never got.
It seems that WWE is shooting for the stars with this guest referee spot, and if they miss they’re likely going to land on a cloud named John Cena.
Who would you rather see in the special guest referee spot? Sound off in the comments below.
why would WWE even think about having a special guest referee for such match ? although its a champion vs champion match but still, Jinder is just a paper champion and WWE do not need to waste on him
