Earlier this year Cody Rhodes made his big return to the ring at the Royal Rumble and he punched his ticket to WrestleMania when he won the 30 man Royal Rumble match. Cody Rhodes challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on the Grandest Stage of Them All, and many people were shocked when The Tribal Chief defeated Cody to retain his title.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that several months later the belief in WWE that the growth of the company is proof that they made the right decision keeping the belt on Roman Reigns. However, it was also noted that at some point Cody Rhodes will likely be getting the title.
“And there were a lot of complaints when Rhodes didn’t beat Reigns, and here we are four months later and things are still growing. Those in WWE are strong on the idea that growth is proof that the decision not to put the title on Rhodes at that time was the right one, and in theory, someday they will.”
Roman Reigns successfully defended his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Jey Uso in a Tribal Combat match at SummerSlam last weekend, and he’s currently set to appear on SmackDown this week. It seems that the plan is for Roman to hold the title until at least WrestleMania 40. It’s been reported that a Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns rematch is one idea that’s been considered for the Show of Shows next year.
