The New Day had been part of the WWE roster for years, and many fans assumed they were WWE lifers. However, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods decided to part ways with the company back in April after they were offered restructured contracts.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods turned down a 50 percent pay cut when they walked away from WWE. It was noted that the expectation is they will end up in All Elite Wrestling as The Young Bucks have wanted to work with them for years.
Xavier Woods is already using the name Austin Creed, and earlier this week Kofi Kingston filed trademarks for Kofi, Kofi Sarkodie-Mensah and KSM. It’s rumored that Kofi and Woods could end up being revealed as Swerve Strickland’s partners at All In. AEW appears to be setting up a match that would see Adam Page & Brody King & Bandido defend the AEW Trios Championship against Ricochet & The Gates of Agony and Swerve’s team at the big event.
Woods has not wrestled since January 31st when he and Kofi teamed with Grayson Waller to face Shinsuke Nakamura and The Motor City Machine Guns in a dark match at the Royal Rumble. Kofi last stepped into the ring on the April 17th episode of SmackDown when he and Grayson Waller challenged Damian Priest & R-Truth for the WWE Tag Team Championship.
Stay tuned for updates.
