“Stone Cold” Steve Austin is one of the most popular WWE stars of all time, but it’s been years since fans have seen him wrestle a match. Austin last competed at WrestleMania 19 where he was defeated by The Rock in 2003. Since then the former WWE Champion has remained retired, but it was recently reported that he’s expected to return to the ring at WrestleMania 38 in April.
Over the years there’s been talk of Steve Austin returning to the ring, but in regards to why it’s happening now the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there’s far more money available for these type of matches. Austin is expected to face Kevin Owens, and it was also noted that Owens is someone who can work a good match and take the loss.
So far no one has officially confirmed that Steve Austin will be wrestling at WrestleMania 38, but that was the word going around at Raw this week, and Kevin Owens seemingly hinted at a potential feud when he cut a promo trash talking Texas.
WWE has a huge stadium to fill for WrestleMania 38, and Austin is the biggest name that the company could bring in since he hasn’t wrestled in 19 years. It’s also being reported that Steve Austin is not the last surprise that WWE has planned for WrestleMania. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
