Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble last month and now he’s set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39. The American Nightmare has yet to come face to face with The Tribal Chief, but he did share a segment with Paul Heyman on Raw this week that got the wrestling world talking.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Paul Heyman was not originally booked to appear on Raw. However, Heyman was set to be in Orlando because Brock Lesnar was going to be there and Heyman is a key part of creative for Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns and Ronda Rousey.

It’s being said that the concept of what was planned last week and what actually happened was completely different. The final product was largely put together by Cody Rhodes and Paul Heyman and went in the direction that both wanted it to go.

It was also noted that one of the key aspects of the promo was Cody Rhodes endorsing Sami Zayn and saying that he hopes to wrestle Zayn. Much of the recent Roman Reigns/Sami Zayn stuff, including the Royal Rumble angle, came from Roman Reigns and Heyman. So, ironically Paul Heyman had to be involved in putting together something to overshadow that angle.
