John Cena celebrated 20 years with WWE last month, and he recently made his big return to Monday Night Raw. Leading up to his return there was some speculation that he could be setting up a SummerSlam match with Theory, but that didn’t happen.
Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live that John Cena is currently filming season 2 of Peacemaker for HBO Max which is why Cena can’t be a part of SummerSlam this year.
During his recent appearance on Raw the former WWE Champion assured fans that he will return to the ring for more than one match at some point. However, he emphasized that he doesn’t know when he will be getting back in the ring.
It’s rumored that WWE could eventually move forward with plans for a Theory vs. Cena match at WrestleMania next year, but only time will tell if that’s the direction the company decides to go. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
