It’s been a big year for Bryan Danielson as he won the AEW World Championship at All In then dropped the title to Jon Moxley at WrestleDream in what was billed as his final match as a full-time wrestler.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that while there was a story out about Darby Allin being planned to win the title after Bryan this year, the secret plan was always for Bryan Danielson to drop the title to a heel Jon Moxley.
The idea of having Swerve Strickland drop the title to Bryan then Bryan dropping the title to Jon Moxley was reportedly planned prior to Jon Moxley winning the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship back in April. Apparently Tony Khan, Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley and Darby Allin were the only people who were supposed to know about the plan.
It’s being said that Bryan Danielson didn’t want to win the AEW World Championship. However, Tony Khan talked him into it with the idea being that his title win would be the biggest possible ending for AEW’s biggest show of the year.
Bryan Danielson pretty much chose his end date with AEW at WrestleDream in Tacoma, but dropping the AEW World Championship to Jon Moxley was always the idea.
