Sami Zayn won the Intercontinental Championship back in March, and he successfully defended it against Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 36 last month, but Zayn hasn’t appeared on WWE programming since.
Earlier this week it was announced that WWE had stripped Sami Zayn of the IC Title, and that tournament would be held to crown a new champion. Zayn hasn’t been attending WWE tapings recently due to health concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that even though no one can say it publicly, there is a lot of unhappiness over the fact that Zayn exercised the option WWE gave to everyone to not wrestle if they don’t want to right now.
It’s also being reported that there are several people in the company who are not comfortable working right now, but they are not sitting out due to job security concerns.
The tournament to crown a new champion will kick off on SmackDown.
