Fans have seen quite a few talents get released from WWE in 2020, and on Friday it was announced that Zelina Vega had been released from her contract, and the release came as a surprise to many.
PWInsider reports that Zelina Vega’s release is related to the fallout from WWE’s new edict regarding a ban on third party services such as Twitch, Cameo, etc.
The report notes that Zelina Vega was informed of her release prior to the SmackDown TV taping on Friday night.
Sources indicated that Vega had been “extremely vocal” about keeping her Twitch account after WWE’s edict was handed. Following her release some talents reportedly questioned if she had been let go as a way to “send a message” others in the company regarding the edict.
Vega continued to stream on Twitch until announcing the suspension of her channel on 10/30. On that day a number of talents including AJ Styles and Xavier Woods traveled to Stamford, CT in an attempt to change Vince McMahon’s mind, but obviously that didn’t go over very well.
Zelina Vega has since announced that she will be returning to Twitch.
I support unionization.
