It seemed that Austin Theory was on a roll last year after he won the Money in the Bank briefcase. Theory teased cashing in on Roman Reigns a few times, but ultimately he never got his chance to face off against The Tribal Chief.

Instead of challenging for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, Austin Theory cashed on in Seth Rollins who was the United States Champion at the time, and he failed to win the gold. Recently Theory discussed his cash in on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, and he explained why he decided to go after the United States Title as opposed to the Undisputed Universal Championship.

“I was in a situation where every time I did try to cash in, yeah, it wasn’t even The Bloodline that was stopping me, [also Tyson Fury]. (…) So it’s one of those things where I was like, man, what can I do? Because I’m kind of stuck. I know that, you know, we’re gonna be around to the next Money in the Bank coming up. So what can I do? And I looked at Seth Rollins, the guy that had the United States Championship, and I realised like that championship is the championship of Monday Night RAW, it is.”

One way or another Austin Theory is holding gold at the moment as he’s the current United States Champion. It was recently confirmed that Theory will defend the belt against John Cena at WrestleMania 39 next month. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
