The Undertaker was lucky enough to have a long career inside the squared circle, and his legacy was cemented over WrestleMania weekend when he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

The Deadman wrestled his last match at WrestleMania 36 when he defeated AJ Styles in a Boneyard Match, and he later confirmed his retirement.

AJ Styles talked about the Boneyard Match a recent interview with Wrestling Inc. where he noted that a cinematic match was not the original plan for WrestleMania. Styles added that he had ideas for an actual wrestling match with Taker, but it wasn’t meant to be.

The Phenomenal One went on to say that he tried to convince The Undertaker to return for one more match, but the Hall of Famer didn’t return his calls.

“I think we all knew that once the Boneyard match got the reaction that it did, that might be it. I called, and he didn’t return my calls. Because he knew, ‘hey, he’s going to convince me to have another match.’”

AJ Styles was recently defeated by Edge during night 2 of WrestleMania 38, so it will be interesting to see where he goes from here. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
