AJ Styles and Kevin Owens have been feuding over the United States Title for most of the summer, and Sunday night they faced off once again at SummerSlam. Shane McMahon served as the special guest referee, and in the end it was AJ Styles who walked out with the United States Championship in his hands.

AJ kicked off SmackDown Live this week, and he announced that the US Open Challenge is back. Styles called out his first challenger, and Kevin Owens answered. AJ Styles told Kevin Owens that he’s done with him, but Owens insisted that he was screwed at SummerSlam.

Shane McMahon then made his way to the ring for a little negotiating. Kevin Owens said he wanted a rematch with a fair referee and Shane granted his request. Owens tried to recruit Sami Zayn backstage, but Sami turned down his offer.

Later in the show Baron Corbin interjected himself into the match when he signed up as the referee. Corbin made it clear that he wants a shot at the title when the match is over.

During the match AJ Styles had a disagreement with Baron Corbin, and Corbin pushed AJ down while Kevin Owens tried to capitalize with a roll up, but Styles kicked out.

Shane McMahon then made his way down to ringside and he argued with Corbin as Kevin Owens hit AJ Styles with a low blow. As Corbin made the count, Shane pulled him out of the ring. Corbin took off the referee shirt and Shane put it on while Kevin Owens protested.

Owens got back in the ring and Styles hit the Phenomenal Forearm to win the match while Shane counted the pin.

It’s been rumored that Shane McMahon and Kevin Owens are building toward a match, and the feud certainly seemed to move forward tonight.

Coming out of the match, it also seems that Baron Corbin is next in line to challenge AJ Styles for the US Title.
