The last few weeks have been full of twists and turns in the AEW World Title scene as Wiliam Regal helped MJF defeat Jon Moxley to win the belt and then MJF turned on Regal. With MJF turning on Regal there’s been a lot of speculation that the former NXT General Manager was written off TV.

Dave Meltzer addressed William Regal’s status on Wrestling Observer Radio and claimed that Regal is gone from AEW. The terms of William Regal’s exit are unclear, but some people have said that Tony Khan gave him an out.

“Regal’s gone. It’s not like ‘maybe he’s gone, maybe he’s not.’ Regal’s gone. I believe that was his farewell. There’s going to be something on Wednesday’s show, there will be something addressing certain things.”

“He is going back to WWE. That’s just the deal. I’ve had so many different people tell me so many different stories. The primary source story is that his contract was short-term. The WWE side says he had an out. Did he sign a nine-month deal [with AEW?] Doesn’t sound right. The closest thing to what I would say is official is that he signed a short-term deal. Others say he had an out or Tony [Khan] gave him an out.”

Dave Meltzer went on to say that when William Regal returns to WWE he will not be appearing on TV as current plans call for him to work in a backstage role. Stay tuned for updates.
