Over the last eleven years a number of NXT Champions can be crowned and throughout different eras of the NXT brand it was at times obvious who the company wanted to push as the top star. At one point Malakai Black was the top star on NXT and he rode that wave of momentum to a NXT Championship win.
While there’s no denying that Black was able to achieve success during his time in NXT he recently revealed on The Undisputed Podcast that a lot of people didn’t like him because of the push he was receiving.
“I remember when I was the quote-unquote, like, chosen one in NXT and I did not have a lot of friends because everybody wanted to be the chosen one, you know what I mean? I had a lot of people that did not like me because of that and I was just going like, ‘I’m sorry guys. I didn’t do anything on purpose.’ But it was just the way that the industry was at the time and what the quote-unquote machine picked at that time.”
Malakai Black is now part of the All Elite Wrestling roster and leader of the House of Black stable who currently hold the AEW World Trios Championship.
