As soon as the dust settled after WrestleMania 34, WWE started hyping up the Greatest Royal Rumble and on Friday the stars of WWE competed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Greatest Royal Rumble was a long show, but it turns out that one match was actually considered for the kickoff show that didn’t end up happening.
PWInsider is reporting that original plans for the Greatest Royal Rumble kickoff show called for Hornswoggle to face off against Rob “The Giant” Araujo in a singles match. At some point during the day plans changed and WWE officials decided to add Hornswoggle to the Greatest Royal Rumble match instead.
WWE recently signed a 10 year deal with Saudi Arabia, so fans can expect more events to be held there in the future, but the Greatest Royal Rumble was the first event under the new deal.
After the event, Vince McMahon took to Twitter to thank the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for hosting the event, and you can see what he had to say below.
Thank you to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for giving the Greatest Royal Rumble to the @WWE Universe, an event that’s truly the first of its kind. #WWEGRR pic.twitter.com/0lJw4zP8y3
