When Shelton Benjamin returned to SmackDown Live it was a great moment for people who remember him from his first run. He was partnered with Charlie Haas as The World’s Greatest Tag Team and alongside Kurt Angle, they had some wonderful times. It’s been a long time since then but it feels like just yesterday.
American Alpha was often compared to The World’s Greatest Tag Team due to their amateur wrestling backgrounds and incredible tandem style. But American Alpha recently had to call it quits because Kurt Angle announced Jason Jordan was his long-lost son. Now Chad Gable has a new tag team partner and it’s none other than Shelton Benjamin.
Even though Shelton Benjamin’s return is exciting it’s even more interesting in a story-sense because Daniel Bryan introduced Shelton by saying he made a deal with Kurt Angle when The Olympic Hero wanted his baby boy on Raw. When Shelton Benjamin stood next to Chad Gable, he not only looked incredibly tall but the two looked very good together.
However, it was noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Benjamin will more than likely wind up turning on Gable eventually. After all, Shelton Benjamin did look rather sure of himself and seemed to look Chad Gable up and down when he said he’s heard all about him.
If this does come to pass, a rivalry between Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable could be a wonderful thing. But let’s hope these two will remain a team long enough to blow us away in the process. With the kind of tag team abilities both of these guys have there is a good reason to think if they remain a unit, they’ll be chomping at the bit to get a shot at the SmackDown Tag Team Championships soon enough.
Either way this one turns out, it looks like SmackDown Live is in for some awesome action.
